Marv Harman, Ken Middleton, and Vernon Starks, and seven other people organized the St. Clair Historical Museum on July 15, 1987, offering charter memberships for $25. In September, Middleton became curator. In May 1988, Jack Roberts became the first chairman.
In Spring 1989, the St. Clair Independent Order of Odd Fellows disbanded, donating their historic old store hall to us.
Volunteers set up exhibits. A roofed porch, sidewalk and displays went up in 1992. Second floor displays opened January 1998.
On Feb. 23, 2014, an electrical fire destroyed the 115-year old building and second floor contents. After two months, Steve and Sue Lindemann offered us space next to St. Clair Health Mart. In March of 2015, we purchased the old firehouse at 560 South Main. As of 2016, we’ve rehabbed the interior. Exhibits are our next priority.
